Therapy for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse
If you or your loved ones are concerned about your use of alcohol or other drugs, I can help you honestly evaluat e your situation and make a plan to move forward effectively.
In addition to substance use issues, people may also be struggling with relationship issues, trauma or mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety. Understanding and addressing these issues is key to getting a handle on what is going on in life.
Therapy for Teenagers
Growing up is not easy, particularly at this time. Teenagers face social, academic and family pressures, as well as changes in their families, relationships and identity. If a teenager is struggling with school, peers, family relationships or identity issues, therapy can help. I approach teenagers and their families with a collaborative and integrationist approach.
Therapy for Depression
The first step in treating depression is accepting that you are facing a real physical condition in your brain and body. Harshly judging yourself as weak or lazy only exacerbates depression and won’t lay the foundation for progress, in fact, it just makes things worse. Depression is one of the most treatable mental health disorders with 80-90% of people eventually responding well to treatment. Almost all suffers gain some relief of symptoms from treatment.
Therapy for Anxiety
People suffering from anxiety disorders experience physical symptoms of stress/panic, attempt to avoid the anxiety provoking situations and can develop a negative view of themselves and their environment. The first steps in addressing an anxiety disorder is to get a shared understanding of what is happening, when it is happening and how it is impacting your life. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) are effective treatments for anxiety disorders.
